Backup-Pal's adapters are able to interface with phones based on the brand of the phone (Nokia, Motorola, SonyEricsson, etc.) and the technology/inteface that that phone supports. Backup-Pal is compatible with a majority of phone brands in the market. Please stay tuned for a complete list of brands and model numbers on our website shortly.
Backup-Pal works independent of the carrier and the network technology that the carrier uses (GSM/CDMA/3G). As for the international support, the Backup-Pal storage format uses Unicode encoding, therefore enabling Backup-Pal to function in multilingual environments.

Backup-Pal is designed to be a universal solution so that it can transfer data from one make and/or model to another. In addition, Backup-Pal can transfer contacts between multiple carriers. For example, one can transfer contacts from a Nokia on Cingular to a Motorola on Verizon.

How can I find out my cellular phone model number? |

Please remove your cellular phone battery and look at the label to determine the model number. A majority of phones have the model number printed on this label.

Backup-Pal is easy to use and does NOT require a PC, software installation, data-cable purchase, or any technical expertise. Simply plug in your phone and your contacts are backed up. .

The current Backup-Pal model does not support SMS (Short Message Service), pictures, ringtones, calendar, or other such multimedia at this time. Future versions of Backup-Pal will include this functionality.

Currently, Backup-Pal backs up both the contact data that is stored on the SIM card in addition to contacts stored on the phone memory. When a phone is lost and the contacts need to be restored, they will be restored to the phone in the same fashion that they were backed up (a mix of phone memory and sim memory) where available, and to other sources when the sim or phone memory are limited.

We noticed it is battery powered. What happens when the batteries die? |

Backup-Pal uses a non-volatile flash type of memory, which stores data even in cases where the battery dies and is replaced. So do not worry; if your batteries run out, your data is safe.

Can multiple phones be backed up? What happens if there are 4 phones shared by a family?

The current Backup-Pal model only supports one phone model. However, future planned models will backup multiple phones, both for business and family use! Although the Backup-Pal package comes with several tips that will work with various models, the main Backup-Pal unit only stores contact information for one phone at a time. However, there is a reset button on the unit that allows you to delete the contacts stored on the unit in order to start backing up contacts from a new phone. What this means is that you could ideally backup and immediately transfer contacts one phone at a time to a new target phone, and re-set the unit. This can solve your problem when going to a new phone. However, the device will not currently backup contacts for multiple phones simultaneously.

Why do I need Backup-Pal if I have a GSM phone with a SIM Card? |

Unfortunately, if you lose your cellular phone, you lose your SIM card as well. Furthermore, a SIM card does not necessarily store all the contact fields that Backup-Pal can backup.
